Having spoken thus, Shri Radha, with eyes like the beautiful lotus, and gait like that of the gentle swan, came slowly near the mahatma Surdas. Surdas was enchanted by Her fragrance. He understood that She was none other than Shri Radha, the beloved of Shri Krishna. He stretched his hand out and caught hold of the frill of Her long skirt. At once, with assumed anger born of prem, Shri Radha looked at the face of Shri Krishna, and started saying so.

Once, seated under the cool shade of an Ashoka tree on the bank of the Yamuna, Surdas, the mahatma was singing melodiously. At that time, Shri Nandakumara, accompanied by Devi Radha, came there playing on His flute captivatingly. Enchanted by the sacred fragrance emanating from Their bodies, Surdas was in a state of doubt and confusion. But he could not see them as he was blind. Looking at His spouse, Radha, who was approaching very near to Shri Surdas, Shri Krishna humourously remarked as follows.

That child Surdas became the virtual, royal court-singer of Lord Shrinatha. He used to please Shri Bhagavan composing new songs and singing in praise of Him daily. Due to the blessing of Shri Vallabha, he attained gnana. So he was able to conceive of the divine pastimes of Shri Krishna in myriad ways, and express them in the form of melodious compositions. His strict adherence to piety of heart, unceasing Krishna kirtan and strict celibacy resulted in the maintenance of his heart, tongue and body always pure.

Shri Surdas was an orphan, and a blind man. He was deserted by all his relatives. He wallowed in poverty and lived by alms from people. He was wandering all over Brindavan, singing melodiously in praise of Shri Govinda. Is not the Divine Name of Shri Govinda the only asset of the poor?

The meeting with sadhus itself has the power to cleanse the hearts. The sadhus who are uniformly disposed towards all, bless through their advice even those who have an incliniation for earthly achievements, with an inward tilted aptitude to probe into the realms of the self. In a few days, the company of the sadhus takes one closer to Shri Krishna and then even the inconquerable worldly attachment is extinguished.

Thus ends Chapter Four entitled 'Shri Hariraya Charitam' of Book VII of Shri Vaishnava Samhita composed by Shri Shri Krishna Premi Swamigal.

She is the most chaste woman, the very sign of whom will cleanse the hearts of the wicked and the sensual persons, and urge them to feel that she is their mother. One whose darshan itself subdues the passion and lust in a woman of a bad character, is the true bhagavata. Men can win over desires only with the help of Krishna bhakti. Hence the wise surrender to Lord Krishna and thus get free from desires. Without a thorough dispassionate attitude one cannot find peace on this earth. One who does not find peace cannot get happiness anywhere. When the ocean of the nectar of intense and very powerful bhakti ebbs up with the uncontrolled pouring in of prem, then lust cannot exist there. So, one should always have Krishna prem in the object of pursuit and seek the company of great bhaktas and sadhus.

Shri Sadguru continued

Shri Hariraya, the unperturbed gnani, consoled the proncess thus. Then the proncess returned to her place. Thus, the pious haridasas (devotees of Lord Hari) purges the entire world of evils. What is strange or unbelievable about the lifestories of such people ? Is not true that Shri Vasudeva is entrapped by their love and devotion ?

A man should not sit on the same seat along with any woman or his own sister or mother even. For, the sensory passions will overpower even great scholars. One should subdue even the most formidable desire with the help of Krishna bhakti alone. For, even the God of love (Kama) is the son of Lord Krishna (and hence under His control).

Oh, great yogi! I have committed a blunder, not knowing your magnificence. Please forgive me.
