A wise man should take as the god incarnate a guru who is detached, equanimous, adept in all shastras, endowed with all noble qualities, adorned with wisdom and a withdrawn attitude, a great devotee of Lord Krishna, capable of imparting Krishna bhakti, very keen in following swadharma, following the Vedas, courageously condemning the pseudo religious, brave standing above the Vedic and earthly bonds, having Krishna dhyana as the only object, never caring for the welfare of the self and not burdened by fears or cares. He should take refuge in such a guru and serve him day in and day-out.

Shri Hitaharivamsha had a son named Gopinathacharya. He was spending his time in Shri Brindavan worshiping Lord Krishna. He was worshiping Lord Krishna's moorti 'Navarangilai' worshiped by his father Hiraharivamsha from his boyhood.

Shri Sadguru continued

While Karmathabai was screaming like this in that desolate forest, a lion appeared there suddenly. That lion was roaring fiercely with a wide open mouth. With a very long tongue glittering with a ray of lightning and sharp teeth, the lion looked dreadful. Looking at that lion that wicked man who was a coward in nature, ran away his desires unfulfilled. The lion instantly dissapeared. Karmathabai was taken aback with surprise. Pondering upon Shri Narasimha the savior of Parahlada, she reached her ashram. Thus Bhagavan the never failing saviour of the bhaktas rushes for their rescue, the moment He is thought upon. Thus the bhaktas of Shri Bhagavan never face distress of fear.

Thus ends Chapter Five entitled 'Karmathabai Devi Charitam' of Book VI of Shri Vaishnava Samhita composed by Shri Shri Krishna Premi Swamigal.

Karmathabai said

Heh! Krishna! Oh! Repository of compassion! The lover of those who have taken refuge in You! Why do you ignore me who am so poor and weak! I have taken refuge in Your feet and am crying bitterly. Why do You neglect me? Didn't You rescue Gajendra caught in the jaws of the whale once? Are You not the final resort of the meek and the poor? Then why do You neglect me? Did You not save Draupadi from the clutches of the wicked? Why do You ignore me alone, an orphan who am shouting out for Your help? Did You not come in the form of Narsimha and save young Prahlada? Then why do You neglect this weak woman who has surrendered to You? Did You not save Rukmini who was coveted by Sishupala? Why are You not saving me who am crying meekly in the midst of this thick forest? Oh! Hari! Govinda! Where has that vigour of Yours exhibited in saving Draupadi and Gajendra, gone now while I am in peril?

Once she was bathing in the holy Yamuna a mleccha approached her induced by lust. That wicked man wanted to get Karmathabai , to his own disaster as Ravana wanted to get Devi Janaki. That lustful man made sure that there was none around there in Shri Brindavan and approached Karmathabai and threatened her. The frightened woman Karmathabai, ran here and there in Shri Brindavan. That wretched man also followed in order to catch hold of her. At last she fell into his hand. Karmathabai cried bitterly like Paanchali in the hands of Dusshasana in the royal Court of Duryodhana.

She gave away her entire family treasure to the vaishnavas, brahmanas and the poor and reached Shri Brindavan. Karmathabai, the detached woman wore a saffron dress, a rosary of Tulasi beads round her neck and had Orrdhva Tilak on her forehead. She ate only roots and fruits. She had her hair put up in matted locks. She had completely subdued her senses. All the time she was was playing on her Tambur singing the praise of Lord Shri Krishna. She was wandering like an orphan though she had got the Lokanatha, Shri Bhagavan as her Lord.

Even when she was very young and had not attained adolescence, her husband died. All her other relatives also died soon. That unfortunate woman had all comforts like a big house, wealth and power. She was very young also. But all these did not make her happy. Her youth and beauty became a waste in the absence of her husband, like salvation or Kaivalya devoid of service to Lord Krishna. As she could not find peace anywhere on this earth she finally reached Shri Brindavan and took refuge in the holy feet of Harivamsha Mahaprabhu.
