अहो बालापि ते पुत्री लज्जां सन्त्यज्य लौकिकीम्  |
कृष्णमेव पतिं लेभे वसन्ती यमुनावने ||
सा काचिद्गोपिका नूनं कृष्णप्रेमपरायणा |
आवयोर्भाग्यलेशेन हन्त पुत्रीत्वमागता ||  

Though your daughter is very young, she has reached Shri Brindavan and taken Shri Krishna to be her husband unmindful of abuses. She has very deep devotion to Shri Krishna and hence she should definitely be a Gopi. Due to our good fortune she is born as our beloved daughter

पठाम्यहं भागवतं पूजयामि च माधवम्  I

तादृशं न हि मे धैर्यं यदहं राजसेवकः  II

I too regularly read Srimad Bhagavatam and do pooja of Shri Krishna. Yet I do not have that level of courage. I continue to be a servant of the king.

ब्राह्मण उवाच 
अहो भाग्यवती त्वञ्च गार्हस्थ्यं सफलं तव |
यस्यास्ते तनया जाये कृष्णदास्यभवद्वने || 

The brahmana said

You are quite blessed. Your wedded life has become meaningful. Your daughter has become a devoted servant-maid of Shri Krishna

किन्तु तस्य द्विजातेश्च प्रार्थना निष्फलाsभवत् |
नानुमेने कर्मदेवी गन्तुं बृन्दावनाद्गृहम्  ||
कृष्णभक्तो द्विजः सोपि बाष्पपर्याकुलेक्षणः |
गृहं गत्वा बभाषे च सान्त्वयन् स्वकुटुम्बिनीम्  ||

But all his entreaties failed. Karmadevi did not agree to leave Shri Brindavan and return home. That brahmana, a great devotee of Lord Krishna returned home empty handed and in great sorrow. By way of consoling his wife he spoke the following

श्रुत्वा परशुरामार्यः सुतां बृन्दावने स्थिताम्  |
आजगामानेतुकामो लोकनिन्दाभयाद्विजः ||

In the meantime, Parashurama learnt that his daughter was living in Shri Brindavan. In order to avoid the gossips of relatives and others he came to take her home.

पद्माक्षतुलसीमालाधारिणी ब्रह्मचारिणी  I
जीर्णवस्त्रा च मलिना कन्दमूलफलाशना  II
ऊर्ध्वपुण्ड्रलसत्फाला कृष्णनामजपप्रिया  I
अवसद्यमुनातीरे कर्मदेवी हरिप्रिया  II 

Her neck was adorned with a rosary of Tulasi-beads. She was wearing a worn-out dress. She was practising strict continence and austerities and took a simple food comprising roots and fruits. Oordhrva Tilak was beautifying her forehead. Karmadevi, the lover of Shri Krishna, lived on the bank of Yamuna with keen interest in chanting the Divine Names of Shri Krishna.

ब्रह्मक्रुण्डसमीपे सा वृक्षमूले महावने  I
निवसन्ती प्रतिदिनं चक्रे माधवकीर्तनम्  II 

There she stayed under a tree near the Brahma Kunda and remained engaged in Krishna kirtan always.

भक्तैः सङ्गम्य तैरेव सहसा विगतच्वरा  I
संसारबन्धनिरर्मुक्ता बृन्दावनमुपागमत्  II 

Karmadevi got rid of the shackles of samsara. Free of cares she reached Shri Brindavan along with those devotees.

तत्रैव ददृशे कश्चिदुष्ट्रो भिन्नोदरःपथि  |
अतिदुःसहदुर्गन्धो निशायां भक्षितो वृकैः  ||
तस्योदरं प्रविश्यैषा कृष्णध्यानञ्चकार सा |
घोराद्विषयदुर्गन्धाद्भीता संसारबन्धनात् ||
असह्यादति दुर्गन्धात्तस्मान्मार्गाद्विनिःसृताः |
अप्राप्य कर्मदेवीं ते जग्मुश्च स्वनिकेतनम्  ||
हरिभक्ता महात्मानो यमुनावनगामिनः |
गायन्तः कृष्णनामानि तत्राजग्मुर्यदृच्छया ||  

The very moment there was seen a dead stinking camel whose abdomen was dug deep into a cavity by foxes. Karmadevi who feared the shackles of samsara and the pungent odour of sense enjoyments entered into the cavity in the stomach of the camel and started meditating on Shri Krishna. Those soldiers could not bear that foul smell and hence did not go that side in search of her. Unable to find her out they returned back. Unexpectedly some devotees of Lord Hari came there chanting Shri Krishna's Names, on their way to Shri Brindavan.

ते सर्वे राजभृत्याश्च हयारूढा:सासंभ्रमम्  |
अनुजग्मुः कर्मदेवीमन्वेष्टुं काननान्तरे ||
आकर्ण्य कर्मदेवी च तुरङ्गमखुरध्वनिम् |
सस्मार मनसा कृष्णं स्मृतात्रार्तिनाशनम् ||   

All those soldiers rode horses and followed Karmadevi closely on the way to the forest. Karmadevi was frightened to hear the sound of the horss' hooves. She immediately engaged in silent prayers to Shri Krishna, who extends a helping hand in times of danger

दृष्ट्वा रुदन्तमाचार्यं सान्त्वयन् भूपतिस्तदा |
भृत्यान् प्रचोदयामास चान्वेष्टुं तनयां गुरोः  ||

The king of that place met Parashurama, his guru. Finding Parashurama lamenting, he consoled him and sent his soldiers in search of the guru's daughter.

ततः परशुरामार्यः शोकसंभ्रमसत्वरः  I
विचिन्वन् स्वसुतां वृद्धो नितरां प्ररुरोद च  II 

Later Parashurama learnt that his daughter was missing. He became very sad and startled and shed tears of sorrow.

घोरेण तमसाक्रान्ते वनमार्गे भयङ्करे  |
गच्छन्ती कृष्णभक्ता सा न च लेभे क्वचिद्भयम्  || 

That devotee of Shri Krishna who was travelling in the desolate, dreadful, and dark forest felt no fear enroute.

इति सञ्चिन्त्य सा देवी निर्जगाम गृहात्तदा  I
वञ्चयन्ती पतिं बन्धून् प्रतस्थे यमुनावनम्  ||

Realizing this Karmadevi deserted her husband and other relatives, left the house and marched towards Shri Brindavan.

यत्रैव भक्तिनिष्ठायास्त्वन्तरायोsभिवर्तते I
सद्य एव विनिर्गच्छेत्तस्माद्देशाद्दृढव्रतः  ||

One should quit that place where there are hurdles to the practice of Krishna bhakti.

आगते च पुनस्तस्मिन्नानेतुं स्वगृहाय ताम् I
सा मेने वैष्णवी सद्यः संप्राप्तां विपदं वधुः II 

Once when her husband came to take her home, the vaishnavite woman Karmadevi thought that some great danger had befallen her.

वरमन्यमनिच्छन्तीमिच्छन्तीं कृष्णमेव ताम् ।
लोकवेदभयाद्विप्र:कस्मैचित्प्रददौ बलात् ॥

She adored Shri Krishna with great love and hence disliked marrying anybody else. But Parashurama forcefully gave her in marriage to another person as he was bound by social customs.

बाल्यादारभ्य सा नारी गोपीभावेन सम्युता ।
कृष्णमाराध्यमास प्रेममार्गेण सादरम् ॥ 

She was worshipping Shri Krishna with untold Gopi prem right from her childhood

तस्य पुत्री महासाध्वी कर्मदेवीति विश्रुता ।
सर्वलक्षणसंपूर्णा नवयौवनसुन्दरी ॥ 

He had an immensely beautiful young and charming daughter named Karmadevi.

कृष्णभक्त्तो विनीतश्च सज्जनाराधनप्रिय: ।
कालक्षेपञ्चकारायं गार्हस्थ्यं धर्ममाचरन् ।।

He led the life of a house-holder and was a great devotee of Lord Krishna. He was leading a life always worshipping the sadhus with great respect and attending on them, politely.
